: 35TH ANNIVERSARY OF 'DESTROYER'

Say it with me: “You wanted the best, you got the best! The hottest band in the world: KISS!”

Despite being the global phenomenon it is today, only a modest reception greeted KISS’ first three albums on initial release back in the 1970s. While all very good rock albums, it seemed KISS, Hotter Than Hell, and Dressed To Kill just couldn’t find a big audience. Between them they had what are now thought of as classic KISS songs such as “Strutter,” “Rock and Roll All Nite,” and “Parasite.” But it was the release of the stunning live album Alive! which turned KISS fever into a full-blown pandemic.

On March 15, 1976, a mere six months after Alive!, the band released its fourth studio album, which was produced by Bob Ezrin. It had rock anthems, ballads, wailing guitars, string sections, thumping drums, and the world’s most iconic musicians. This was to be the album which turned KISS from rock stars into superstars. And its title summed up the band’s intent: Destroyer.

You want a guaranteed good time on St. Patrick’s Day? KISS is bringing its special brand of entertainment to Hard Rock Live for a show that will (sham) rock like no other. Known for blood-spewing, pyrotechnic-happy shows, the boys — including original members Gene Simmo ns and Paul Stanley — promise to bring it. We spoke with 59-year-old Stanley, whose wife is expecting a girl in August.

Why did you decide to do only three shows, one in South Florida?

We are really not on tour. We had a few shows booked quite awhile ago, and rather than cancel them we decided to get out there and do a few. It is what we love doing, and we are in pre-production on the next album, and so it only makes us want to go out and play that much more.

How much rehearsal do you do?

We are certainly professional enough to go out and do it, but there is a difference between being about to do it and do it best. We rehearse not because we don’t know the songs but to shake out the rust.

KISSONLINE

Last night legendary rockers, KISS, played for the third time in their almost 40 years career in San Juan, Puerto Rico. As expected they presented a music spectacle that blew the fans out of their seats. With a modest stage in contrast to their 1999 Psycho Circus concert, KISS didn’t use all their show antics like in previews dates for the Hottest Show On Earth 2010 Tour. Paul didn’t flew over the audience, Gene didn’t levitated during the bass solo and sang up in the lighting trust and risers weren’t used during the opening entrance of “Modern Day Delilah”; but they weren’t needed at all. Paul’s showmanship and stage moves kept the audience connected and energized at all times. He even spoke a couple of sentences in fluid Spanish. Gene electrified the audience with his demonic antics and outrageous performance. Eric and Tommy offered solid musical performances as well and showed they belonged to the band as much as any other past member. The show felt like a cross between a stadium concert because of the explosions and pyrotechnics with a small theater vibe.

CELEBRATING WITH
KISSONLINE FAN LETTER
KISS has been an important part of my life since I discovered them at age 14 (1977). As I got older, married, had children - KISS was still there and I continued to see them whenever I could attend a concert. In 2009, after saving up for months, I was able to purchase a backstage pass and make a dream come true: meeting the band.

Little did I know that this high point would be followed by my life's lowest point when I was diagnosed with breast cancer 4 months later. During the past year, I have been battling this disease with surgery, chemo, and radiation. It has been a grueling experience but I still managed to attend a KISS concert in Atlanta this past August.

I recently completed treatment and just this week I got a clean PET scan result! I could think of no better way to celebrate than to get my first tattoo...and of course, it had to be KISS!

DOES SEX SELL? NEW CONDOMS PUT ON LATEX
The Associated Press / Washington
A condom maker is taking the truism "sex sells" very literally.

A new line of the contraceptives puts advertising not just on the wrapper, but the latex itself.

Graphic Armor Inc.'s new Picture Condoms meet all FDA requirements and it claims they're the first to feature full-color images on the latex. They're starting with a condom branded with the rock band Kiss that shows Gene Simmons' tongue unfurled. Another Kiss version featuring bandmate Paul Stanley is slated for June.

Adam Glickman, CEO of condom retailer Condomania, says the creators are in talks with entertainment companies, energy drinks and designers to put logos and messages on the condoms.

They come in a 3-pack for $7.99.
