Exclusive Video: Dr. Pepper's Super Bowl Ad Features Kiss and...MiniKiss!

BY Alissa Walker

This exclusive peek of Dr. Pepper's first-ever Super Bowl spot features the painted faces of rock band Kiss as well as their diminutive doppelgangers, MiniKiss. Agency Deutsch wanted to emphasize Dr. Pepper's "little kiss" of cherry. According to Dr. Pepper, the bands have met before, but this was their first offical performance.

Look for the full spot at the two-minute warning, just before halftime.

CALLING DR. LOVE: INVADES THE SUPER BOWL

Only ET is behind the scenes with legendary rockers Kiss on their first-ever Dr. Pepper Super Bowl commercial -- featuring Mini Kiss!

"The basic premise of this is I'm Dr. Love -- you're not," Gene Simmons tells ET. "Dr. Love is here to make you all feel better, girls."

Airing during the second quarter of the big game this Sunday, the ad features the return of Gene as Dr. Love along with lead singer Paul Stanley and the rest of the Kiss line-up rocking onstage with Mini Kiss, extolling the virtues of Dr. Pepper Cherry's uniquely smooth taste.

"It's a little hint of Kiss with a little hint of cherry," says Paul in pitchman mode.

"It's always the sincerest form of flattery," says Gene of the band's pint-sized counterparts. "Mini Kiss has everything that we have -- perhaps not the same size, but then size isn't important... Yes, it is important, isn't it?"

"That's right, and they work for half price," adds Paul. "Their songs are shorter."

Native New Yorker and major Kiss fan Joey Fatale, who plays mini Gene, came up with the idea for his tribute band one day while looking at one of the Kiss albums.

"It just popped in my head, the name Mini Kiss," he explains. "I said this'll be cool - four little people dressed up as Kiss." After their first gig at Studio 54 in Manhattan, they were an overnight success, and the rest is history.

"If it wasn't for Kiss, we wouldn't be here," he says reverently.

MY DAUGHTER'S SCHOOL PROJECT
KISSONLINE FAN LETTER
Hey Guys!

On February 3rd, my 5 year old daughter, Bryanna, will be celebrating her 100th day of kindergarten. As a family project, we were instructed to decorate something using 100 objects of our choice. What better than to use 100 KISS M&M's decorating her (not to mention my) favorite band of all time! She can't wait to get this to school tomorrow! Thanks for everything, guys!

KEEP ROCKING!

AWESOME TRUCK!
KISSONLINE FAN LETTER
Hi KISS,

I'm writing this for a friend (Donnie Coleman), who has absolutely devoted his entire life to KISS, and all that KISS stands for. In his house, he has a complete room (20'x20') that is a 'decorated shrine' to KISS. There are numerous trophies, posters, wallpaper, border, photos, memorabilia, and multiple pieces of 'one-of-a-kind' KISS items. It is truly a sight to behold. His collection of KISS items numbers in the hundreds. He has been to a number of your concerts, but has never had the pleasure of meeting any of you. It would be his biggest-life-thrill to do so.

Donnie has a 'highly modified' Ford F-150 pickup truck that he has maintained in Showroom Condition since he purchased it brand new in 1997. To date, he has spent over $75,000 in modifications to this truck, and has won countless automobile shows with it. I'm sending you a few photos of the truck to show you what I mean.

The photos do not do the truck justice. It is a flawless vehicle, and it's never been driven. It rolls on and off an enclosed trailer for the purpose of viewing at auto shows. He has taken the 'Best of Show' honors (and trophies) a number of times, and the truck continues to blow people away whenever they view it. The interior of the truck (as well as the exterior) is magnificent. Truly, a one-of-a-kind vehicle.

Kindest regards,

Ed Adams

Hi KISS,

Here's a fun one!

During the annual South Dakota Governor's Conference on Tourism awards banquet last Thursday night, Governor Mike Rounds (who is entering the last year of his administration) presented the "Top 10 Things I'll miss as a Former Governor." Number 2 was "My backstage access to the legends of rock and roll will probably be severely limited" and this picture of the Governor with KISS was shown on several big screens.
