COLOMBIAN HAIR SALON ROCKS WITH !

KISS IS EVERYWHERE!

HAIRDRESSER PAYS HOMAGE TO KISS

By Fabian Forero Baron
Translated from Spanish for KISSonline by Jill Cataldo

Carlos Buitrago, a Bogota resident for 51 years, is one of the most popular personalities in Suba.

Debauchery is taking place at 4 in the afternoon in his hair salon. Érika Ramírez is having her hair done. The salon is an overdose of KISS. Certainly a rarity among hair salons, entering this establishment looks and feels more like a rock and metal record store or perhaps a downtown bar -- not a neighborhood barbershop.

None of it matters to this tender grandmother. She knows the good hand of Carlos Buitrago, owner of the salon. And everyone in the Riviera district knows he's managed Bogota's most mind-blowing KISS beauty salon since 1997.

The place is decorated with a collection of 1,500 objects featuring the American band. In a showcase under lock and key, you'll find memorabilia from band members Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Peter Criss and Ace Frehley - a pair of drumsticks, or a small billiard ball with the logo of the exotic group. The walls exude rock and are upholstered with the spirit of KISS, and it's a scene that was born from an idea Carlos had from somewhere out of the ordinary.

Carlos, who is also known in the neighborhood as 'Kiss', 'Scissors' or simply as 'Charly', was the first to display a lush mane in the village of Suba.

In those years, at the end of the 70s, he was already forming a collection influenced by the rhythm of rock powerhouse KISS. "The objects in the collection were the Love Gun and Alive II records. I then began to buy everything that I could find in the music departments of 19 stores. Friends also brought me KISS things from the United States." For him, none of his KISS items are more valuable than another piece of the collection. Everything from t-shirts, caps, CDs, posters, flags, photos, pictures, stickers and trading cards all have the same value and importance. "Clients come here come and bring me things from trips. Once a granny came and gave me a very expensive flag," he added.

April 11, 2009: 'Scissors' lived his moment of glory. That day, his beloved KISS appeared in Simón Bolívar Park.

"Oh... I think that it was the best party I've ever been to in my life. I thought that I would die without seeing them, but no; I was able to enjoy them, thanks to God and that my daughter gave me a ticket", remembers 'KISS', the barber.

DESTROYER BOOTS CAKE
KISSONLINE FAN LETTER
Recently, I was asked to make a KISS Destroyer boots birthday cake for a party that was held at the Monster Mini Golf in Las Vegas. Needless to say, it was a challenge! But I am very happy with the outcome and am proud to share it with you! Everything is edible (except for the eye gems) and each demon face was sculpted, by hand, out of modeling chocolate.

Enjoy!

KISS Solo #1: The DemonKISS Solo #1: The Demon
Written by Chris Ryall
Art by Angel Medina
Colors by Romulo Fajardo
Covers by Romulo Fajardo, Keith Leroux, Angel Medina, Tone Rodriguez
IDW Publishing
Release Date: April 10, 2013
Cover Price: $3.99

If there was ever a band that was destined to live beyond their years of rockin’ and rollin’ all night into a comic book legacy, then it has to be KISS. From almost the beginning of their career they were seen as larger-than-life superheroes, and it was inevitable that Stan Lee from Marvel would open the gates to them entering comic book history – complete with vials of their own blood added to the red ink.

Now, in the 21st century, as the band continues with their new album release Monster and consequent world tour, IDW continues comic book KISStory – and this time claiming new ground. Just like 35 years ago when the individual members released their own solo albums, IDW is releasing “solo comics,” each chapter focusing on one of the individual four-who-are-one.

The first installment of KISS Solo focuses on Gene Simmons, or rather The Demon, in KISS Solo #1: The Demon. Continuing on from previous issues of the IDW KISS line, The Demon finds himself in a city terrorized by potential war. He is intrigued by humanity, a species capable of such wide ranging emotional states that he has never experienced in his existence as one of the four warriors of the Elder.

But while meandering among humanity, he stumbles across a group of enemies – the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse; or rather the Four Horsemen of the Destroyer. What follows is a battle among the warriors that tests the power of the Demon, as he wrangles with the Four Horsemen alone and away from his three companions.

MY ROCK AND ROLL OVER BIRTHDAY CAKE
KISSONLINE FAN LETTER
Dear KISS,

This year for my 14th birthday I asked for a KISS "Rock And Roll Over" cake. Being that KISS has been my favorite band ever since I was around four or five, I thought it would be appropriate. So, my mom and dad printed out a picture of possibly the best album artwork in Rock and Roll history, and had it professionally made into a cake! I just thought that I would share with you my best "birthday cake" experience!

Long Live KISS!!!,
Nick DeCastro

SNEAK PEEK: KIDS COMICS
KISSONLINE EXCLUSIVE
KISS KIDS COMING SOON!!!

Here are a few sketches from our forthcoming KISS KISS COMICS.

The tiny terrors hit stands in an all-ages new series!

Ah, the simple pleasures of just being a kid. Lemonade stands, little league games, advanced fort building, rocking the faces off of millions of screaming fans all over the world while thwarting the plans of your evil school Principal.

If a couple of those cherished childhood memories sound unfamiliar, that's because they can only be found in KISS Kids, the new series starring the pint-sized rock gods! Join Starchild, Li'l Demon, Spacey, and Catkid as they get into trouble and kick out the jams in strips featuring familiar characters and settings from KISS lore. Helmed by KISS series writers Chris Ryall and Tom Waltz with fun, expressive art by Jose Holder (Mars Attacks The Real Ghostbusters), KISS Kids promises to be a treat for fans of all-ages!

"KISS is used to rocking and rolling all night and partying every day, but back when they were little'uns, those things only happened around nap time," said Chris Ryall, also IDW's Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief. "This series will appeal to kids and Kiss fans of all ages, as we see the school-age band engage robots, evil teachers, other students, and much more, all filtered through the KISS lens. Beth, the school's Doctor Love, the snooty Torpedo Girls, the bratty "Wicked" Lester, nefarious Principal Elder... they're all here for this accessible, funny, and appealing new series."

The new KISS Kids series, coming this fall, is being previewed in the form of a one-page strip on the back cover of all four issues of this spring's Kiss Solo series. Fans will get their first real look at the Kiss Kids on April 10, when Kiss Solo #1: The Demon by Ryall and artist Angel Medina is released.

"Rock and Roll All Nite....and Potty Every Day," added the L'il Demon himself, Kiss founding member, Gene Simmons.

This fall, there's only one place for proof positive that whether you're a Starchild or a Demon, there's nothing better than rocking and rolling all night and reading comics every day!

DEMON CAST
KISSONLINE FAN LETTER
My guitar player was backyard wrestling and dropped a guy on his ankle. Needless to say he had some time off work. So we went toy shopping and found a place that had two original Mego KISS dolls. Being a fan since I was a kid, I asked how much they were. The lady opened the case and the Paul doll had a sticker for $100. I've been unemployed for six months so I didn't have the cash. I asked if I could just hold it. She very rudely said "only for serious buyers" and stuffed it back in the display case. Brad being the best friend he is, said "hell, I got $100", but I wouldn't let him buy it. That's too much to ask of a friend. Well a few days later he calls and says I got you something. Sure enough he got me the doll!

It inspired me to let him know how much it meant to me, so I grabbed a silver sharpie, some white nail polish and went to town on his cast. Had I known the Demon himself would be seeing it I would of spent a little more time on it. I've been drawing KISS on pretty much everything since I can remember. I'm awestruck knowing that my idol gotta kick outta something I did to mess with my buddy. It has been a rough year but this has got to be the coolest thing that's ever happened to me.

Love you guys,
Baron Fodrie
