Kentucky Ice Storm

Greetings from Louisville, KY where I\'ve had a long, cold week living without power, heat or communication. At its peak, over 200,000 Louisvillians were left without power and half a million Kentucky residents. Our power came back on this morning after 6 days of January weather.
When the ice storm hit, we were completely unprepared. We have an old school fire burning fireplace that hasn\'t been used in 15 years, and I went about scavenging for wood and artificial Duraflame logs, but supplies were short and sold out everywhere in town in hours. Every hotel in the Louisville area was quickly booked solid. People were grabbing and fighting over supplies at open stores and society seemed to be breaking down quickly. After an entire day searching for wood, I only found a few pieces of frozen, wet timber that we ran out of at 11pm, and spent that rest of night in rapidly dropping indoor temperatures and zero degrees outside.
I wasn\'t as much worried about myself as I was for my mother, my 92 year old grandmother and our two dogs and three parakeets. I was afraid the birds were going to die first so I put an old kerosene lamp near their cage. I spent the next five days getting food and supplies for my family and trying to keep them warm in a smoky house.
In any case, there is a silver lining and a KISS connection. On the day after I had failed to find the proper supplies to heat the house, a fellow KISS fan and friend came to the rescue. He called to check on us and when he found out our situation he showed up at our door with both fire wood and artificial long burning logs. I\'m telling you Gene, KISS fans are the best people in the world. If you post this I want to thank him. His name is Brian Jordan and we met some years back talking about KISS in a shop were I was working and ended up going to the Rock the Nation tour in Indianapolis together. Great show.
Also, on the coldest nights when it certainly wasn\'t \"Hotter Than Hell,\" I slept with my KISS Destroyer throw blanket underneath me and my KISS Solo Covers blanket on top. So, yes, you can buy practical KISS products that you can use in your daily lives. It\'s not that the KISS lava lamp isn\'t cool, but the KISS blanket helped keep my ass warm!
By the way, everybody is okay. Even the birds. I hope all other KISS fans out there are doing as well!
