KISSONLINE EXCLUSIVE
Slated for release in September, "Nothing to Lose: The Making of KISS (1972-1975)"

Nothin’ to Lose: the Making of KISS (1972-1975) chronicles the crucial formative years of the legendary rock band KISS, culminating with the groundbreaking success of their classic 1975 album Alive! and the smash single “Rock and Roll All Nite,” a song that nearly four decades later remains one of the band’s most enduring anthems. Drawing on more than 200 new interviews,, the 544 page hardback book offers a captivating and intimate fly-on-the-wall account of their launch, charting the struggles and ultimate victories that led them to the threshold of superstardom. Constructed as an oral history, the book, includes original interviews with Paul, Gene, Ace, and Peter, as well as producers, engineers, management, record company personnel, roadies, club owners, booking agents, concert promoters, costume, stage and art designers, rock photographers, publicists, and key music journalists. Many of KISS's musical contemporaries from the time, most of whom shared concert bills with the band on their early tours, also lend their perspective via new interviews including Bob Seger, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Rush, Slade, Blue Oyster Cult, Mott the Hoople, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Raspberries, James Gang, Montrose, Black Oak Arkansas, Ted Nugent, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, New York Dolls, Iggy & the Stooges, The Ramones, Suzi Quatro, Savoy Brown, Argent, Nazareth, Uriah Heep, Suzi Quatro, Leslie West, Status Quo, Jo Jo Gunne, The Rockets and Wishbone Ash among others. Profusely illustrated with over 150 photos, the end result is an indelible and irresistible portrait of a band on the rise and the music scene they changed forever.

SIGHTING ON AMERICAN PICKERS
AMERICAN PICKERS
KISS IS EVERYWHERE!

Our friend Frank Fritz, one of History Channel's "American Pickers," is also a big KISS fan. He and partner Mike Wolfe recently picked the storage lockers of Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen! Check out what happened when Frank discovered Rick's set of KISS solo albums... in an envelope addressed by Gene!

At the end of the episode, Frank says that the albums are priceless to him, and they're going in his own private collection, never to be sold. Here's a clip!

ORDERS AN OCEAN OF FOOD
PLAYING to a packed-out arena sure makes you hungry.

Something of a party started on Sunday night at East Sydney seafood staple Blue Angel when the four members of KISS and their entourage rocked up for a late feed following their Allphones Arena gig.

Fellow diners tell Confidential the band - who feasted on 10kg of King Island crab, platters of lobster sashimi and south pacific oysters - racked up a bill of more than $5000. They also left a $500 tip for the staff, we hear.

While long-time owner Marcello Marcobello would not discuss numbers yesterday, he was surprised at the amount of wine on the table.

"For rock stars they were unbelievably tame," he said.

ADAM LEWIS ventures to Sydney’s Olympic Park to discover what happens when you put two of the world’s most decadent rock ‘n’ roll bands in a room together. Photos by DEXTER CORNELIUS.

A six-year-old Gene Simmons picks at nuggets outside the Olympic Park McDonalds. A procession of balding Paul Stanleys in polo shirts trudge from the train to the arena, several metres ahead of an attractive female Eric Singer. Inside the stadium nature has called, and a middle-aged Tommy Thayer awkwardly deconstructs his elaborate spaceman costume in the middle of the bathroom.

KISS are almost as famous for their fans as they are for their music, a fact that becomes exceedingly obvious before the Lidcombe-Olympic Park train even reaches the station. Entire families are decked out in the band’s signature makeup, and KISS shirts are everywhere. If they aren’t the most popular band in the world, a couple of hours among their fans certainly makes them feel like the biggest.

ROCK OUT ON SYDNEY'S ALLPHONES STAGE
KISS Rock Out On Sydney's Allphones Arena Stage In Their Major 2012-2013 World Tour

Excerpted from a review by Holly Williams / Contact Music

KISS venture to Sydney, Australia midway through their latest world tour.

Hard rock four-piece KISS hit Sydney, Australia midway through their expansive 2012/2013 world tour.

As part of their highly anticipated tour, seventies rock band KISS played a seminal show at the Allphones Arena in Sydney on Sunday (March 10th 2013). The tour celebrates their latest album release, 'Monster', which came out in October 2012 and has peaked at an impressive number 3 spot on the US and Canada charts and number 2 in Norway. It's a follow-up to their 2009 record 'Sonic Boom' which was their first album to be released in nearly ten years after a dramatic change of heart from Simmons and Stanley. This new world tour began only weeks after they finished their July to October North American string of shows called 'The Tour' which their co-headlined with Motley Crue, but rather than looking exhausted at the prospect of some major gigging, this group of fifty-plus year old rockers are looking more vibrant than ever.
