TOMMY THAYER HOSTS PACIFIC UNIVERSITY LEGENDS
By Forest Grove Leader

Pacific University Legends, hosted by Tommy Thayer, will take place Sunday, Aug. 25, at Waverley Country Club in Portland.

This is the seventh consecutive year that Tommy Thayer, lead guitarist for the rock band KISS, has hosted the formal event, which raises money for the university's 23-sport NCAA Division III athletics program.

The gala will feature fine cuisine, a live auction, professional athletes, and a concert featuring well-known musicians from various bands.

Joining Thayer on stage will be singer-songwriter and keyboardist Bill Champlin, formerly of Chicago, known for voicing some of the band's top hits and writing tunes such as "Please Hold On" and "Remembering the Feeling."

Also performing will be Danny Seraphine, the original drummer and founding member of Chicago and California Transit Authority (CTA); Bobby Kimball, former lead singer of the band Toto; CTA arranger, producer and keyboardist Ed Roth; and Oregon's saxophone jazz musician, Patrick Lamb.

This year's celebrity cast also includes golf instructor Tommy Masters, who played on the Nike and Canadian tours from 1992 to 1995, and Perry Swenson, the only woman to record a hole in one at the Augusta National and played on the LPGA Futures Tour.

Over the years, Legends has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Pacific University's athletics program. Proceeds have helped upgrade facilities, enhanced operating budgets for sports programs, and helped the school bring back the football program.

The event begins Sunday evening with a reception, followed by dinner, both silent and live auctions, and a concert.
