THIS DAY IN TORY 1975
KISSONLINE.com
On this day in KISSTORY - September 10, 1975, KISS released their legendary ALIVE album. This double live album, recorded largely in Detroit's Cobo Arena (with some material from Iowa, New Jersey and Ohio), marked the pivotal giant step towards achieving domination in the 70's.

The multi-platinum album peaked at #9, and spent 110 weeks on the album charts.

"We wanted to put out a souvenir, almost like when you go to the circus," said Paul Stanley. "I really enjoy myself onstage, prancing around, shaking my ass, shaking my head, playing the guitar between my legs. I enjoy it as much as the audience. Basically, I am entertaining myself up there."

LA OFFERS TIM TEBOW 3-YEAR DEAL
The Los Angeles KISS, a new Arena Football League team co-owned by the legendary rock band, offered quarterback Tim Tebow a three-year contract, the team announced Monday.

Tebow, a former Heisman Trophy winner, was cut by the New England Patriots on Aug. 31.

Tebow is the first player co-owners Brett Bouchy, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Doc McGhee have approached. The team begins its inaugural Arena League season in March 2014. It will play its home games at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

"Tim Tebow is one of the most recognized and respected athletes in sport," Stanley said in a press release. "His joining us would mean great things for his fans and for our team, especially from a business standpoint. His credibility within the sports arena is paramount and with our commitment to bringing football without compromise back to LA, we're excited to see how this offer turns out."

If Tebow accepts, the contract pends approval from the league's board of directors and players' union.

"Acquiring Tebow would not only be a great investment for the team, but his exciting style of play would definitely send shockwaves through the league," Simmons said in a press release. "We're excited for the opportunity to see him with an LA KISS uniform on, and for the LA KISS fans to be rockin' their Tebow shirts and jerseys."

After starring at Florida, Tebow has completed 47.9 percent of his passes in the NFL, thrown for 2,422 yards with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions and rushed for 989 yards with 12 TDs. He went 7-4 as a starter for the Denver Broncos in the 2011 regular season and helped get them to the playoffs. He spent last season with the New York Jets, where he completed six of eight passes for 39 yards.

"Similar to how Kurt Warner blossomed in the NFL after becoming one of the greatest quarterbacks in AFL history, we feel our league is the best place for Tim to refine his skills and gain valuable repetitions," Bouchy said in a press release. "We have tremendous faith in Tim's ability to succeed in the AFL."

Tebow reportedly turned down an NFL team interested in him because he refuses to switch to another position. He has also rejected offers from the Canadian Football League and USA Rugby because he only wants to play in the NFL as a quarterback.

The inside story of the formation and early years of the legendary rock band KISS

“Nothin' to Lose is an electrifying look at a band that changed the course of rock and roll history by sticking to their guns and blazing their own trail of heavy metal thunder. I couldn't put it down. Two thumbs up!” —Joe Perry, Aerosmith

“If you thought you knew everything there was to know about KISS… well, you’d be wrong. Nothin’ to Lose focuses on KISS’s early days, all told in first person by the band members, their friends, and record industry insiders—including, yes, moi! If you want to find out how Gene Simmons learned to breathe fire and what Paul Stanley’s early makeup looked like—this is the book that’ll tell you. Buy this book or just KISS off!” —Alice Cooper

“A rollicking, wild ride through the creation of one of rock’s most iconographic bands, this is the ultimate KISS book.” —Charles R. Cross, author of Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain

Chronicling—for the first time in one epic oral history—the crucial formative years of the legendary rock band KISS, Nothin’ to Lose: the Making of KISS (1972-1975) — (It Books; September 10; 2013; Hardcover; $29.99) by Ken Sharp, with Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, is an up close and personal look at the formation of one of the most beloved and iconic rock bands of all time – told by the people who were there.

Forty years ago, in a perfect storm of attitude, oversize ambition, and plain dumb luck, Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss came together, and KISS was born. They would go on to change the face of rock and roll – to scale the peaks of rock immortality – and become global superstars, who still tour and perform today. And yet, the saga of KISS is far from the classic overnight success story. Theirs is a story of struggle, a story of resilience, and of an unrelenting desire to succeed.
