AUSTRALIAN MONSTER TOUR

On this day in KISSTORY - February 28, 2013, KISS opened their Australian MONSTER Tour at a packed arena in Perth.

FOUR decades after their original formation, KISS certainly still knows how to put on a Monster of a show.

It was a larger-than-life spectacle featuring all the KISS concert staples fans have come to know and love over the years including make-up, high heels, pyrotechnics, blood spitting, fire-breathing, guitar licking, sparking guitars and a levitating drum kit for the band’s first live show on Perth soil since 2004.

And age proved to be nothing but a number to co-frontmen Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, who strutted around on stage oozing every ounce of the confident rock star persona they’ve always embodied.

The loyal KISS Army battalions were out in force, packing Perth Arena to the roof, rocking face-paint or official merchandise and screaming the words to every song.

It was a hit-packed two-hour set featuring the likes of Detroit Rock City, Shout It Out Loud, I Love It Loud, Psycho Circus, War Machine, an acoustic version of Shandi and Black Diamond.

There were a handful of newer hits from their latest album Monster, which was released last year, including Hell or Hallelujah, Wall of Sound and Outta This World, which saw guitarist Tommy Thayer take on lead vocals.

The crowd pleasing three song encore exploded with Lick It Up, I Was Made for Lovin’ You and Rock and Roll All Night.

PAUL STANLEY DELIGHTED WITH EAR SURGERY
Kiss star Paul Stanley was delighted when he underwent surgery to correct his lifelong ear issues, as it meant he could finally sport a short hairstyle.

The rocker suffers from microtia, which has caused deafness and a deformity of his right ear, and the health problem prompted severe childhood trauma as he was constantly stared at by strangers.

The condition affected his confidence so much that Stanley even had sessions with a psychiatrist at the age of 15, and he was overjoyed when researchers finally found a way to alleviate the condition with reconstructive surgery when he was 30.

Stanley tells Mojo magazine, "It was huge, because it had nothing to do with what people see. It's never about what people see, it's about what you know. The fact that I was finally in a situation where the technology and the skill existed to alter something that I had lived with my whole life - and the repercussions of that - was beyond description. The fact that I could cut my hair short or wear it back was enormous. The fact I could be 'normal' was uplifting."

VOTE FOR THE 40 GREATEST SONGS EVER
You wanted the vote, you got the vote!

To celebrate the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame finally recognizing KISS, as well as the 40th anniversary of the band’s first album, our chums at Classic Rock are compiling a list of the 40 greatest KISS songs – as voted for by YOU.

To get involved, simply email your Top five KISS songs, in order of greatness, to kiss@weareteamrock.com, with the top 40 being published in an issue of Classic Rock very soon.

KISS monarchs Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley recently confirmed that the legends won’t be performing at their Hall Of Fame induction under any lineup, noting:

“This is understandably an emotional situation where there is no way to please everyone. To bring this to a quick end, we have decided not to play in any lineup and we will focus our attention on celebrating our induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.”

The ceremony takes place on April 10 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and will also see inductions for Nirvana, Cat Stevens, Hall And Oates, Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel, Andrew Oldham, Brian Epstein and the E Street Band.

ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME STATEMENT FROM

To All Our Fans In Regards To The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:

Out of respect, Ace and Peter's recent statements demand a quick response to you, our fans.

Our intention was to celebrate the entire history of KISS and give credit to all members including long time present members Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer, and additionally Bruce Kulick and Eric Carr all who have made this band what it is, regardless of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame's point of view.

Although KISS has moved forward far longer without them, Ace and Peter are at the very foundation of what we have built and this would all be impossible had they not been a part of it in the beginning.

It is over 13 years since the original lineup has played together in make-up and we believe the memory of those times would not be enhanced. Contrary to claims made through the media we have never refused to play with Ace and Peter.

We have spent 40 years dedicated to building KISS without quitting or wavering as the band has moved forward with huge tours and platinum albums through different important lineups for forty years, to this day.

KISS has always been a band unlike any other. That is why we started KISS. That is why we continue KISS. Being unlike other bands also means making choices and decisions unlike other bands.

This is understandably an emotional situation where there is no way to please everyone.

To bring this to a quick end, we have decided not to play in any line-up and we will focus our attention on celebrating our induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

We are excited and are looking forward to seeing you all on the KISS 40th Anniversary worldwide tour.

MY DAUGHTER'S QUILT
KISSONLINE LETTERS

For my daughter's 18th birthday, I made her a T-shirt quilt. I've been saving her favorite shirts from childhood - everything from school, sports, scouts -- and of course, many KISS t-shirts she's worn over the years. I bordered the quilt blocks with (what else?) Hello Kitty KISS fabric!
