MACKAY residents and businesses are getting into the KISS spirit as the town prepares for this weekend's concert.

Ticket sales were on track to break the record for the biggest concert held in Mackay, MECC manager Mark Fawcett said.

A couple of hundred tickets are still available but Mr Fawcett is urging people not to leave their ticket purchases to the last minute to avoid long line-ups at the gate.

"We'd like it to be easier for people to get into the stadium on the night," he said. "If we have to sell tickets as well as get people in, it really gets congested."

Residents and businesses are making the most out of the concert that will rock Mackay.

Media manager Krista Bagley said it was a way they could get involved in the big event.

"It's just more to promote the music theme in Mackay," Ms Bagley said. "I think it's just really exciting. A few of us will be going to the concert. We love our rock and roll."

Ms Bagley said their KISS products were selling well, along with products for cover bands including Thin Lizzy and Motley Crue.

"We've been selling quite a few, we got in some vinyl for it and people have been really going for that as well."

Mr Fawcett said letterbox drops had gone out to residents around the stadium and he was pleased by the community's response to the big night.

"There's a real excitement in town and people are really, really looking forward for this event."

People are encouraged to park at the MECC and take the free shuttle bus to the stadium, as there will be limited parking. The shuttle will run from 3pm to 12.30am.

Juliet St will be closed between the Vigoro grounds and the stadium from 3pm.

Bridge Rd will be closed between Vigoro grounds and Lamb St. There will be limited access to the car park on Bridge Rd, near the netball courts.
